JVNY in concert: Ridotto concert series
Winter Workshop:
Where: Port Jefferson Music Academy, 202 Main Street, Suite 5
Topic: This workshop will give Academy students of all ages and levels an opportunity to perform and share their work with peers and family in a festive, supportive environmnet. All Academy students are encouraged to participate. The workshop will be given by the Academy’s co-directors, Sophie Arbuckle and Arik Braude, and is open to all Port Jefferson Music Academy students, families and friends.
"In Grandma's Attic" presents two Nutcracker Workshops:
Topic: The Port Jefferson Music Academy welcomes dancer and choreographer, Deborah Bailey in a series of workshops which depict the tale of the Nutcracker. Through creative movement, story telling and the music of Tchaikovsky, Ms. Bailey will engage children to improvise dance movement and to discover this delightful masterpiece in depth in such a way that they will be inspired by it for years to come.
Winter Workshop “On Practicing”:
Topic: This workshop will focus on what we do in the practice room and how our daily practise leads to constructive results. We will focus on how to use our time efficiently to maximize results and improve our work habits. Good practice skills help to improve our playing, but also tranfer into other important life skills including academic achievement. And in addition, good practicing is fun! Please join us for this important class.
Chamber Music Weekend Day Camp:
Topic: Students will be placed in chamber music configurations and coached intensively throughout the weekend by Port Jefferson Music Academy faculty & guest members of the JVNY Ensemble. The weekend will culminate in a presentation of works studied.
Workshop "On Chamber Music"
Topic: This workshop will focus on an in-depth view of chamber music and will be led by Port Jefferson Music Academy directors & faculty along with selected JVNY guest artists. All Port Jefferson Music Academy students are encouraged to participate.
Spring Student Recital:
The Spring Recital celebrates the culmination of the academic year’s work. Students present a polished work in a concert setting. All students are encouraged to participate, and to bring family and friends to listen. Entrance is free of charge and there is plenty of seating available.
Academy Concert Faculty Recital:

This concert features the Braude Ensemble in a vibrant program of romantic chamber works for piano and strings. Entrance is free of charge for Port Jefferson Music Academy students and families, and $20 per ticket for general audience. A reception, during which audience members can meet the artists, will follow the concert.
Summer Arts Program Open House:
The open house will be a presentation to the public of the new creativity classes that are being added to our program as well as of the summer music program. Refreshments will be served.
Summer Chamber Music Day Camp:
The Chamber Music Day Camp provides an opportunity for students to prepare chamber music works in an intensive course led by the Academy's artistic directors along with members of the JVNY Ensemble. The daily schedule will run from 10 AM to 3 PM and will include chamber music coaching, music theory classes, choral work, and ear training as well as some leisure activities. Each workshop session will culminate in a performance that is open to the public as well as in some outreach concerts for the community.
